What a wonderful reading! I’m enjoying this all the while reflecting upon my own challenging relationship with my departed Mom. She teaches me still. I too, have a connection beyond what was present during our experience together. The balance of your own relationship with your husband also highlights the beauty in recognizing gifts and differences. Those closest to us gift us with both support and growth opportunities, set forth first in our natal beginnings. Thank you.
Thanks as always for reading and sharing feedback. I’m far from an expert, but all that I’ve read and learned about trauma and how it shows up in interpersonal relationships has greatly enhanced my understanding of human behavior and conflict.
I totally agree that are are opportunities for support and growth in all of it! The journey to self-acceptance and authenticity has been (and still is) an insightful one.
Your writing continues to inspire! I, too, had a similar mother, one who didn't know how to love. Yet, like your experience, Mom become my best mentor after her death. I love her dearly. Happy Mother's Day to all! Thank you.
My entire volatile upbringing makes sense the last few years in ways it did not the prior 50. Doesn’t make it any less devastating, but it certainly helps me to understand and reflect on the situations with empathy instead of judgment! Happy Mother’s Day to you too!
